Academy offers private lessons

Students wishing to sign up for Owensboro Symphony Academy private lessons should contact Maestro Joseph Choi via e-mail at maestrojec@aol.com.

The academy offers private instruction for:

  • All orchestral instruments
  • Strings (violin, viola, cello and double bass)
  • Suzuki (beginning violin and cello lessons are available)
  • Woodwinds (flute, clarinet, oboe and bassoon)
  • Brass (French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba)
  • Percussion (drums and timpani)
  • Voice lessons
  • Choral and orchestral conducting
  • Music Theory
  • Guitar and organ (available only if enough students show interest)

"Diane at Dusk" Airs March 16 on WKWC

Diane Earle will present "Diane at Dusk" on Tuesday, March 16, from 6 to 7 pm on WKWC 90.3 FM. She will discuss and play excerpts of music from the upcoming Owensboro Symphony concert in April. Music featured includes a tone poem by Richard Strauss, and Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana". Earle will discuss the history and background of the pieces. She is a professor of music at the college. The monthly program alternates with "Nick at Nite" the third Tuesday of each month. For additional information, contact Derik Hancock at 270-852-3603.

"Nick at Nite"

Maestro Nicholas Palmer, Music Director and Conductor of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and Artist in Residence at Kentucky Wesleyan College, will present "Nick at Nite" on Tuesday, February 16 at 6 pm. This hour-long radio program is presented on WKWC 90.3 FM on the third Tuesday of every month, alternating with "Diane at Dusk".  Palmer will discuss music for the March symphony concert and will play excerpts of music by the featured composer, John Williams
