OSO Greatest Hits OSO's Greatest Hits: Highlights from the 40th Season
$15.00

The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra (OSO) is pleased to release its third CD on the OSO's SymphonicDiscoveries label. "OSO's Greatest Hits: Highlights from the 40th Season" includes well-know orchestral favorites such as Rossini's Barber of Seville Overture and the Finale from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony complete with a 150+ voice chorus and soloists. The music was recorded live in the RiverPark Center during the 2005-2006 Season and features the OSO conducted by Music Director Nicholas Palmer as well as the Owensboro Civic Chorus, Diane Earle, Director and Violinist John MacFarlane. The recording was generously sponsored by WaxWorks, Inc. and ADventures Advertising Specialties & Design Services.

The OSO has made a total of eight CD recordings in the last eight seasons, including commercial recordings on the Vienna Modern Masters and Albany Records label, a rarity for an orchestra in a smaller city. Recent recordings have received much praise and have been featured in Fanfare and other CD magazines.

This new OSO CD can be purchased for $15 at the OSO office at 211 East 2nd Street, or by calling Renee Beasley Jones, OSO Marketing Director at: (270) 684-0661, ext. 11

Symphony musicians donated their services for this concert and a chorus of 200, organized by Dr. Diane Earle, joined the Symphony for several selections.  Ministers from area churches read scriptures, and Mayor Waymond Morris and Daviess County Judge-Executive Reid Haire gave the invocation and benediction, respectively.  A special message by Thurman Bennett of the Owensboro Fire Department was a highlight of the program.  Special guest artists Alma Randolph, Jon Brennan, and Katie Lynn Herron also donated their talents to this community event.  Proceeds from the CD will go to the September 11 relief efforts.

Musical selections include: My Old Kentucky Home, Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, the 2nd movement from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Amazing Grace, Armed Forces Salute, Finlandia (Be Still My Soul) by Sibelius, God Bless America, and Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA (sung by Jon Brennan).
